Video Intercom Systems: How do they work?



As buildings and security technologies become smarter, we’re seeing more homeowners and businesses interested in video intercom systems.


A video intercom system is a security technology that allows two-way communications. Usually, one device will be mounted permanently at a point of entry, like a doorway or gate. The wall-mounted intercom has circuitry that allows visitors to announce their arrival. It will also have a video camera that allows the end user to see a live video feed of the person seeking access to the building.

IP Video Intercoms



IP Video Intercoms have typically used in business, commercial and high-end residential applications. They connect to the Ethernet network to provide audio and video from entrances or room to room. Typically these devices are powered over PoE and need only a cable from the main network. IP intercoms are routable through the internet and can be connected to remote monitoring centers.



Wireless video intercoms



Wireless video intercoms are the easiest to set up as they simply plug in for power and don't require any additional wiring or Internet set up. Wireless intercoms are great for home, shop and garage communications.

Similarily to IP video intercoms, they work connected in an IP network, but using the wireless connectivity, it gives more flexibility and need only power at the installed location.



Video Doorbells



Video Doorbells are incredibly popular for home and business applications. See who's at the front door without having to physically be there to answer. This enhances not just convenience but also security. Video Doorbells at home can be used to talk to visitors and couriers to provide instruction. They can also let the owner scare away intruders and warn burglars that they're being watched.



Gate Intercoms



Gate intercoms can be wireless or use wired or IP connections to communicate with a home owner or guard station. Gate intercoms can also be used to release the gate remotely.

Gate intercoms if using video and bidirectional audio communication, can be managed by monitoring companies to control who should enter or exit through the gate managed by the Intercom.

The Camera Matrix allows you to view multiple cameras from different VMSes simultaneously on the same page. With our Scripting Engine, we can push events back to the VMS or email camera snapshots when configured events occur when supported by VMS.

Our range of audio products and network speakers can be integrated into the video management software. The enhancement brings the benefits of audio in security and incident deterrent to the broadest range of customers, with the ease of management from our Surveillance System.

Users will be able to install network speakers by the push of a button to their existing system. The VMS system provides remote access to video cameras and network speakers via a mobile or desktop app, which also sends alert notifications to the business owners in the case of an incident. The audio feature allows users to react immediately to suspicious situations by making a live announcement directly from the app, which can deter potential criminals and intruders.
